Dear Parents and carers,

Yesterday we attended Mass in celebration of the great Solemnity of the Ascension, the day in which Jesus ascended

into heaven to his father. Father Owen reminded the children not to be like the Apostles looking up into the sky for

Jesus, but to seek him in the here and now inside each one of us. As we approach the feast of Pentecost and the

coming of the Holy Spirit, may we have the courage and strength to follow in the footsteps of the Apostles, as we

continue to build the Church through each act of love and kindness.

It has been beautiful to witness the great example of faith of the children as they have gathered each morning to

pray a decade of the rosary in our beautiful prayer garden. The children have prayed for world intentions and the

intentions of our Sacred Heart family. If you have any intentions you would like us to remember then please send

them into school to be remembered daily.

Rebound Fitness Day

On Tuesday, all classes enjoyed taking part in our exciting ‘rebound fitness’ activity. Children were engaged in the fun

fitness routine led by an external coach trained in ‘rebound fitness’ using mini trampolines! This supported the

children’s health and wellbeing as part of our healthy school’s act by keeping the children active as well as having lots

of fun.

Visit to the Whitworth Art Gallery: The year 4 class visited the Whitworth Art gallery and took part in a printing

workshop. They thoroughly enjoyed creating their own designs using the ink and printing press. Many thanks to

those parents who supported us on the day.

Next week:

Mental Health Week (13 th-19th May)

Mental Health Awareness week begins on Monday 13th May. The theme set by the Mental Health Foundation is ‘Movement: Moving for out mental health’. Being physically active is great for our

bodies and minds. Exercise has been proven to reduce anxiety and depression, and it can help to prevent physical

illness. As well as raising awareness amongst the children, we will be completing the daily mile each day.

KS2 SATS: We wish all our year 6 children the best of luck with their tests next week. They are well prepared for

these and I’m sure will perform well. Children should arrive promptly each day.

Year 2 trip to Manchester - Emily Pankhurst: As part of their topic on what makes a city and the English topic on

Emily Pankhurst, the year 2 class will be travelling into Manchester on the tram to see the statue of Emily Pankhurst

and to spot other Manchester landmarks. Parents that are willing to support the supervision of children during this

trip should contact the school office. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Crowning of Mary: A long-standing tradition in the Church has been to adorn a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary

with flowers during May, a month dedicated to her honour. Children will do this and celebrate Mass on Friday 17th

May at 9:30am in Church. Children are invited to bring flowers in to school on this day, these will be laid at the statue

during a procession at the start of Mass. Parents are most welcome to attend.

First Holy Communion – Saturday 15th June

Children in year 3 will make their first Holy communion on Saturday 15th June at 10:30am Mass in Church. Please

remember these children and their families in your prayers

Attendance: The year 3 class had the best attendance with 100% and enjoyed an extra play this afternoon. The whole

school attendance at 95.5%.

The school will close for the whit break on Friday 24th May and re-open on Monday 10th June.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,

Mrs Bramhall, Headteacher
